MOURNING SONG
Grief is internal; mourning gives it voice.
I created this piece in response to my disillusionment with a country I once believed upheld equality, generosity, and the rule of law—a country that valued freedom and ensured everyone belonged and had a voice. Now, witnessing the erosion of these ideals—the hate-mongering and lies being spewed by our toxic leaders—I mourn what has been lost. Yet, I hope that by turning to creativity and music, and by embracing the good I know exists within us, we can let our mourning guide us toward hope and renewed belief in the future.
Never give up.
