THRESHOLD

You know that moment right before you fall asleep when you feel like you’re floating, flying, or suspended in a void? That’s Hypnagogia. It’s the threshold when waking loosens, and your dreams begin to rise. Most of us experience these types of hallucinations, and they feel real.

In this piece, I wanted to capture that moment. A woman floats in a vast, dark ocean where sky and water blur into one endless horizon. From below, an octopus reaches up from the depths of her subconscious.

The imagery here draws on the ancient Inuit myth of Sedna, the goddess of the deep. Legend says she was a woman cast into the freezing sea, where she transformed into the ruler of the abyss. To reach her is to surrender to the cold, dark weight of the unknown.
