CREATIVE SPIRIT

Creative Spirit is a textured portrait of an American bison, capturing the immense power and quiet dignity of this keystone species. Using a bold palette of purples, blues, reds, maroons, and yellows, the piece features a close-up of the bison’s head and torso as it gazes out with an aura of rooted strength.  

This piece is made from broken pottery, ceramics, and stained glass, mounted on reclaimed barn wood.  My inspiration was born from a 2023 road trip across the Midwest prairies, where I was captivated by the physical size and spiritual presence of free-roaming herds. I originally intended to depict a whole herd, but the artwork evolved into a singular figure. The title, Creative Spirit, reflects my journey of leaning into my "internal muse" and allowing the creative process to flow freely, much like the wild spirit of the bison itself.
